OLLEY DOUBLE SETS WINNING COURSE

Sun Jun 22 2008

Magic Utd 3 (M. Olley 2, W. Bryett)

Coomera 0

HT 3:0

MATT Olley found his goalscoring touch for Magic United with his first half brace, complimented by a Wes Bryett free-kick, sealing back-to-back wins for Brett Budwee’s outfit.

After a sticky run of form that saw them lose three consecutive matches against their top four competitors, Magic have thrust themselves back into the title race with their latest triumph.

The game was as good as over by half-time with Magic bursting out of the blocks and taking the attacking initiative. Olley should have opened his account earlier than he did but his glaring miss in the first minute only served to inspire the striker to take the other chances that came his way soon after.

In just the sixth minute Olley finished some tidy lead-up play to settle his nerves and called upon his poacher’s instinct midway through the first period to give Coomera no way back.

Bryett’s curling 20-metre free-kick added to Coomera’s pain on the half hour and their cause was made even more difficult following the dismissal of former Magic player Alec Muir for a hefty challenge.

Coomera were reduced to nine men in the second half, but the controversy could not take the gloss from what was a dominant performance by Magic, and one that naturally delighted their coach Brett Budwee.

“If it wasn’t for their defence the score really could have been anything. Two other results this weekend went our way as well, so I’m delighted,” he said.

Budwee added that it’s the promising home form of his side that could hold the key to stretching their winning streak.

“Every home game we’ve played this year we’ve played well. We’ve got a few more in a row now and that’s what I’m concentrating on.
