Buffalo Sports Premier League Round 8 Preview

Thu Jun 5 2008

FOLLOWING a weekend of FA Cup action the focus switches back to the Buffalo Sports Premier League this Saturday and Sunday with a number of sides keen to iron out creases in their recent form.

Magic Utd are a case in point with the Carrara-based club slipping up in their last two league outings after a promising start to the season. Magic take on Nerang this Saturday and will need to be wary of the threat posed by a side full of confidence after a morale-boosting round 7 win over Palm Beach.

On paper league-leaders Burleigh Heads should have no such worries against Coomera, but although Steve Beever’s side are yet to win this term they are unbeaten in their last four games. Most pundits would still tip Burleigh to take the points but they will be made to work hard for them and there will be no whitewash here.

Burleigh Heads coach Col Phelan will be impressing on his players the need for 90 minutes of concentration and commitment with complacency not an option for his side.

Perhaps the pick of the Saturday night fixtures is the second versus third clash at the Croatian Sports Centre between Gold Coast Knights and Musgrave. Two attractive sides, both capable of scoring goals and both desperate for the points to keep the pressure on Burleigh. All the ingredients are there for an absolute cracker with the prize for the winner some welcome breathing space on the ladder.

At Sid Bigg Park two struggling sides come together when Mudgeeraba host Surfers Paradise in a battle between the bottom pair of the Buffalo Sports Premier League. With only one victory between them, both teams will be eying this one off as one of their more winnable games of the campaign so far.

A draw is practically useless to either side so expect these two to go hell-for-leather for all three points.

Sunday sees a rematch between Palm Beach and Broadbeach Utd after they clashed in the semi-final of the Dog & Parrot FA Cup last weekend. Palm Beach prevailed in that one and Broadbeach will be keen to erase what was a flat performance by their recent standards.

Both need a win to stay on the coat tails of the leading pack and there appears to be little to choose between the two teams.
